On the bottom left of the game screen, you can see three shapes for the tools that you can use, and after you've selected the one you want, you click and hold to move it around, going over the rotating piece of wood.

There, depending on how you move the tool alongside it, you can create various shapes inside it, just like a sculptor, and the more interesting the shape takes form, the more coins you are going to earn in return.
