Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy is an iconic YuGiOh game online, the first based on the GX series. Win card duels to become the King of Games!

🏫 Welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy!

The Duel Academy was financed by Kaiba Corporation as a training ground for the best future duelists! It is placed on an island, where students learn how to become the best players of Duel Monsters, the trading card game featured in this anime series.

  • The formation of the school took place after the events of the Original Yu-Gi-Oh series. The GX series brings new protagonists, a new setting, and a whole new line of cards!
👑 Become the king of games!

That is your purpose in this game, and where the narrative takes you towards. You begin as a student enrolled in Slifer Red. What is that? It's one of the three dorms at the school. Yes, it is similar to the houses from Harry Potter. Here is a quick explanations of the three dorms and student rankings:

  • 🔴 In Slifer Red are the weakest students in terms of dueling ability. There were entry exams, and that is where you got assigned. If you work hard, you can advance and change rank to join the other dorms!
  • 🟡 Ra Yellow is the middle-ranked class of students and dorm. They have better amenities, a better dorm, and more prestigious students. Their classes are also harder.
  • 🔵 Obelisk Blue is the best dorm, the top one. It has the best students in school. For example, Zane, Jaden's rival, or Alexis Rhodes, his love interest. Will you join this dorm? Only if you're an amazing duelist!
🃏 Win the Yu-Gi-Oh Duels!

It is the way to advance the storyline, advance in rank, and eventually earn the title of King of Games! To win a duel, you have to deplete your enemy's health points. To do so, you have to make attacks on his monsters or directly at them to get them to go from 4000 to 0. If they do it to you first, you lose!

💯 Get Duelist Points to strengthen your deck!

When you win card duels, you earn duel points. They are the currency of Duel Academy. Use them in the cards shop to buy new cards. You can then go and configure your deck with them.

It's not always the best deck that wins, since it is how you use the cards that matters most, but we still recommend having strong cards and a well-thought strategy behind why they are in your deck. What do we mean?

Well, for example, a deck with Dark monsters works best if you have a field spell that is also Dark. It will strengthen all the Dark monsters on the field, and weaken Light monsters. If your enemy has a lot of Light monsters, you've got the upper hand!

👹 Monster Cards

They are used for attacking, if placed in the ATK position (vertical) or for defense, if placed in the DEF position (horizontal). To beat your opponent's monster you have to have more ATK points than they have ATK or DEF points. If they have more attack points, your monster gets beaten.

  • life points are taken from the opponent from the different between your monster and theirs, if you beat it;
  • monsters can also attack the enemy directly, retracting their ATK points from their LP, but only if there are no weapons on your opponent's field;

Monsters can be normal, in which case they only rely on ATK and DEF points, or they can be Effect Monsters, who also have special abilities you can trigger to your advantage.

Fusion Monsters are made through the fusion of two monsters, and they usually create one stronger than the two of them separately.

⭐ How to summon Monster Cards

Each monster card has a number of stars underneath its name. They show rank, as well as the summoning conditions:

  • monsters with up to four stars can be placed directly on the field;
  • monsters with 5 or 6 stars can only be placed if you sacrifice one another monster you already have;
  • monsters with 7 and more make you sacrifice two of your monsters to summon them;
🪤 Trap Cards

They are placed face down, because you are meant to trap your opponent with them. They activate based on the conditions written on them, some of them automatically, but some of them when you want to use them.

  • for example, you should try using trap cards that deflect or stop enemy attacks in order to protect your monsters;
  • try to chain trap cards one after another to increase your chances of success;
🧙‍♂️ Spell Cards

They are placed face-up, and activate when put on the field. They have effects that can help you, or undermine your opponent. Here's a few examples:

  • Pot of Greed is a spell card that allows you to draw two more cards from your deck. It is a big favorite in this world.
  • Monster Reborn allows you to bring one monster back on your side of the field, from your or your enemy's graveyard.
  • Change of Heart allows you to steal one of your opponent's monsters, becoming yours effective immediately.
  • Field Spell Cards modify the field of play and gives you benefits, or causes damage to your opponent.
😕 Still confused? Try the in-game tutorial!

We found it to be very good at explaining the rules of the game. Even more so, since Yu-Gi-Oh has evolved a lot over the years. Maybe you know the rules from recent generations, which are more free, but back when Yu-Gi-Oh GX first released, the rules were simpler, albeit with new elements from the first series.

The tutorial is given to you by Syrus Truesdale (yes, Zane's little brother), and it has the following lessons:

  1. Card Types
  2. How to Construct a Deck
  3. Field Description
  4. Flow of a Duel
  5. Monster Summon
  6. Battle Phase
  7. How to use Spells and Traps

You can always go back to the tutorial if you have more questions.

🤔 Don't worry, you're at school, so you will be learning!

We find that the setting of the game (just like in the show it is based on) makes for a great introduction into the Duel Monsters Trading Card Game. Each duel you take part in is harder than the last, but all of them are made to be won. You learn new mechanics and tricks as you advance the story. If you're a newbie, this great game will turn you into a pro!

  • We think that the tutorial part and the introduction part of the game is quite long, but, getting your basics in from the get-go will help you greatly!
❤️ You're the new hero of Yu-Gi-Oh GX! Do you have the heart of the cards?

Yes, in the show, it was Jaden Yuki that became the new King of Games, and (spoiler alert) had a duel against Yami Yugi at the end of the show. Well, now, you are the protagonist instead. You will fight against Jaden, Alexis, Zane, the annoying Chazz, and some otherworldly entities. Dark forces surround the Duel Academy Island. Beware!

How to play?

  • ARROWS = navigation
  • Z = select
  • X = back

Tips & Tricks

  • always save progress because the game does not have auto-save;
  • you can still find duelists to play again during the weekend, if you explore the island, and you should do it, as it improves your ranking;
  • you can only buy cards on Saturdays, since the shop is closed on Sundays;

FAQs

Who is a strong duelist in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Duel Academy?
You might think of Zane, but for us, it was Chazz. Chazz, after he got the Ojama Deck got really annoying to fight against, as those cards have a really good defense system, which is though to break through.
What is the PDA?
It is the device that allows you to travel the school grounds, customize your decks, email other students, maybe even teachers, and where your rank, status, and points are all recorded. It's your tool to navigate the game.
