From the main menu, you choose between going in the storyline one song after another in order in the Story Mode or picking out any of the songs at whichever time you want from the Free Play mode, but the gameplay works the same in both cases, and newcomers will be shown all of that right now.

When you see the floating arrow symbols match above the character on the right side of the screen, at the same time you need to press the identical arrow keys to hit your notes, doing it until the song ends to win.
