Whether you are playing in the story mode or free play mode, to win you need to do the same thing, which is hit your notes according to the charts until the end of the song.

So, when the floating arrow symbols match on the top right side of the screen, that is when you need to press the identical arrow keys. Make sure not to miss notes multiple times in a row, because if your health bar depletes, you lose.
