The first game mode to hit the waves with is a time trial mode. Before you run out of time, surf a big distance, and collect as many coins as you can. Use the up and down arrow keys to surf, and press space to jump off the surfboard.
There are lots of obstacles in the water, so make sure that you avoid them. If you hit them and lose all your lives, you lose. Make a big score and surf a big distance by the time the clock strikes zero.
In the racing mode, it's about who gets to the finish line first: you, or the computer? Each of you surfs with a character, and you try to surf longer than them, because if you get wiped-out, you clearly lose.
In addition to choosing the character you want to surf with, you can also pick from a few surf board models, one more interesting and unique than the other. There's even one that looks like ice cream.
