Outside the castle doors, there are elements that you use to add protection for it, using the mouse to swap items between them, getting three of the same kind to form a new object, making this a merging game as well.

Use stone to make towers, crystals to make walls, gold to make treasure chests that give you power-ups, or wood to make cannons that shoot at enemies.

Dragons, enemy armies, and other dangers will attack you in waves, and you need to keep matching and putting up defenses to stop them, doing so as much as possible. If you lose all your lives, you also lose the game, so focus on not letting that happen.
