Reach the safe spot in the middle, and escape through the same color to be able to go further and get more points.

If you hit candy of one color into shapes with another color, you lose and die. Between the shapes you need to jump, you might have your color changed when you get that upgrade, so focus on the next shade, keep going further up by jumping with the candy, and get a bigger score than your previous run.
