Because of that fateful mission, Captain got frozen under the sea, preserved by the power of the alien stone, and then resurrected in 2011, brought in modern times, more than sixty years after his presumed death. Captain America then becomes the de-facto leader of The Avengers, a team set up by Shield's Nick Fury, which also comprised Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and later many others, such as Spiderman, Black Panther, Scarlett Witch, Vision, and more.
Together they stopped the existential threat of Thanos, who used the Infinity Stones to eradicate half of living life in the whole universe, with the team eventually reversing that through the sacrifice of Tony Stark, with Captain America traveling back in time, in an alternate reality, where he could finally spend his life together with Peggy Carter, the love of his life.
