Choose between playing in 1P with Sonic, or in the 2-Player mode, where you race against one another on the same map, but with the screen split. The first one to complete the course wins. The four maps you can race against one another are:

Emerald Hill Zone
Mystic Cave Zone
Casino Night Zone
Special Stage

In the 1P mode, you start at Splash Hill Zone 1, and then continue through all of the other maps. Finish all of them to win the game!

Run and jump to victory!

The goal is reaching the end of the maps. Make sure you will:

avoid spikes, robots, or falling into other kinds of traps and dangers;
collect rings to get a big score;
if you hit the dangers and lose all your rings, you have to restart;
find the emeralds to save the world from Dr. Eggman;
try to finish the levels fast, because you are being timed;
look for power-ups, grab them, and use them to get the advantage;
