From the main menu you need to choose between playing in the story mode or free play mode, and, in either case, give your best toward reaching the end of the songs by playing their notes according to the charts, because if you miss your notes too many times in a row, you lose instead.
To hit said notes, press the arrow keys at the same time as the identical arrow symbols match above the characters on the right. Pressing keys too early, too late, wrong, or not at all is how you miss notes. Good luck, enjoy, and start right now!
