From the main menu you need to pick between playing in the story mode or free play mode, and in either case, keep hitting notes according to the charts until you reach the end of the songs, something done by pressing arrow keys at the same time as the identical arrow symbols match above the character on the right.

If you're missing too many notes instead, you lose and have to start all over again from scratch, which happens if the health bar completely depletes, so don't let it. Good luck, enjoy!
