After having made your choice between playing in the story mode or free play mode, in either case, make sure that you hit notes according to the charts until the songs end, doing so by pressing arrow keys at the same time as the identical arrow symbols match on the top right.

That is how you win because if you miss your notes too many times in a row, and your health bar depletes, you lose and have to start again from scratch. Good luck, enjoy!
